5 Homemade Natural air fresheners

There is not better feeling than coming home and smell a pleasant aroma. Nowadays it’s very usual to find chemical air fresheners in every store. However this type of products contains ingredients that can be harmful for the health. That’s why we want to present some homemade natural air fresheners. They are easy to prepare and will decorate your home without causing environmental or health problems.

Scented candles

Candles are an excellent option to perfume home. However, most candles are made of paraffin (derived from oil) that emanate an unpleasant aroma when you turn them off. That’s why we show you some alternatives:
Needed

  • Bee wax
  • Water
  • Essential oil
  • 1 candle wick
  • Glass jar

Preparation

  • Melt the bee wax with a double boiler.
  • Add three drops of your favourite essential oil.
  • Place the liquid in the glass jar adding the candle wick.
  • Wait until it gets cool and light it to freshen.

You can also choose soy candles; they are a good option due to it vegetable origin.

 

Decorative orange

This freshener shape is really decorative. You can place it everywhere at home providing a pleasant aroma.

Needed

  • 1 orange
  • 1 small candle
  • Smell cloves

Preparation

  • Cut the top of the orange.
  • Place the candle inside it.
  • Poke the nails into the skin of the orange.
  • Light the candle so the heat helps to release the fruity aroma.

You can replace the orange with a lemon to get a different aroma.

Herbs and dried flowers freshener

Needed

  • 1 glass jar
  • Aromatic herbs
  • Dried flowers
  • Essential oil

Preparation

  • Put the dried flowers and the aromatic herbs in the glass jar and leave it closed for 4 days.
  • Move the glass jar during that time.
  • After this period of time add some drops of essential oil and keep the jar closed for 1 more month. Move it occasionally.
  • After that time the freshener will be ready. You can keep the mix in the glass jar for decoration.

 

 

Scented fabric bags

Scented fabric bags are a natural option to perfume every part of the house, specially wardrobes and drawers because they keep the aroma longer than other chemical fresheners.

Needed

  • Cotton bags
  • Spices

Preparation

  • Fill the bags with spices you like. Rosemary, lavender, cinnamon, coffee beans, cloves, stuffed orange, or small soap pieces are good options.

 

 

Freshener Gel

Needed

  • 1 decorative jar
  • 2 cups of water
  • 4 gelatin packages
  • Essential oil

Preparation

  • Place a cup of water to boil and add the gelatin until it’s diluted.
  • Remove from heat and add another cup of water and 20 drops of essential oil.
  • When it’s mixed, pour it into the decorative jar and wait for ir to dry.

You can also add some bamboo sticks in the decorative jar before the mix dries so they will keep the aroma longer.
