Society is evolving at the speed of light in the field of technology. When a new device comes out to market, we still haven’t finished learning all about the one we are using. On a psychological level, this has an impact that starts shaping our way of thinking and behaving in the world. The addiction to new technologies exposes us to a continuous sensorial stimulation, interrupting our day-to-day activities. As a result, we’re unable to focus on one activity without being distracted.

Phone calls, emails, whatsapp or social media are a source of constant over-stimulation. Using an electronic device for leisure isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it can affect our capacity to relate with other people, causing us to be socially isolated beings. New technologies are nor good or bad, it all depends on the use we give them, and how much we abuse them. If you feel anxious or nervous when you don’t have your devices near you for a period of time, you should consider doing a digital detox, especially during a vacation.

A healthy lifestyle is based on a balance in all areas of your life, like your job, friends, family, physical and mental health, physical environment, leisure, fun and personal and spiritual development. From a psychology point of view, we recommend using technology moderately, so that you can develop and enjoy all other areas in your life.

At SHA Wellness Clinic, we recommend practicing relaxation activities such as mindfulness or calming treatments such as acupuncture, massages, water therapies, etc. that help balance the mind and body and reduce the use of technology.
