Today we talk about natural health and evidence-based health and wellbeing benefits of meditation and mindfulness in people’s life.

Quite simply, the range of health benefits (physical, mental and emotional) are extensive and quite incredible. The learning and practice of meditation is highly effective for pro-active healthcare, for improving health and wellbeing and for addressing and managing health challenges, illnesses and long term conditions.

There is actually nothing else, at all, like meditation and mindfulness that enables access to such a vast array of health and wellbeing benefits –and many other benefits-, such as greater brain power and cognitive function, enhanced happiness and quality of life, improved personal and work performance, better self-esteem, better relationships etc, etc.

The 15 key benefits of meditation are:

  • Stronger general health
  • Stronger immune function, quicker recovery from illness/injury, reduced risk factors (cardiovascular health, stroke, Diabetes, neurological conditions)
  • Lowering of high blood pressure or hypertension and reduction of atherosclerosis
  • Reduction and management of stress, anxiety, worry and also depression –for example, meditators have significantly lower levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) than non-meditators-.
  • Reversal of aging, youth enhancement and healthy ageing –for example, meditators have significantly higher levels of DHEA (the youth hormone) than non-meditators-.
  • Natural weight loss and management of weight
  • Stronger mental health and mental and emotional resilience
  • Management and potential reduction of pain and chronic pain
  • Improved sleep (and quality of sleep) –for example, meditators have significantly higher levels of melatonin in their system than non-meditators.
  • Management (physical, mental and emotional) of long term conditions and illnesses, such as cancer
  • Reduction of migraines and headaches
  • Improves breathing and helps to reduce diseases such as asthma
  • Eliminates many of the Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
  • Helps control hormones during menopause
  • Fertility and healthy pregnancy and birth

The practice of meditation and mindfulness (and the meditation techniques are easy to learn and take only a small amount of time each day) provided extensive and cumulative health and wellbeing benefits. Once a meditation and mindfulness practice is learnt and brought into life (in practical and modern ways), then that practice can lead to a huge array of multiple and mutually reinforcing and supporting benefits and feel much better both inside and outside.
