What is psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by causing irritation, swelling, redness and the inevitable presence of plaques with silvery scales and cracks.

Its appearance may be sudden or gradual, and the injuries get worst in stress periods on the person, because in that kind of circumstances the immune system decreases and the toxins in the body get increased.

In order to protect your skin from psoriasis is essential to get some basic healthy habits to keep the body in balance, both internally and externally. From the outside, according to the personal hygiene, having a daily shower is essential, using not aggressive soaps, specific shampoos and avoiding to rub the skin excessively; and from the inside, keeping a healthy and balanced diet, exercising and maintaining a proper sleep schedule .

The key to control and improve psoriasis is based on following an antioxidant diet that provides your body of the necessary vitamins that will help you fighting this disease. These essential vitamins are Vitamin A, basic for the maintenance of a healthy skin, Vitamin C , a powerful antioxidant that helps to improve its appearance, folic acid and selenium.

 

Beneficial foods for psoriasis:

Fruit : Fruit is essential in any diet, but in this case is particularly recommended for the large amount of vitamins and nutrients that, undoubtedly, are very favorable for our skin. It is also important that the fruit has to be organic and natural, in order to make sure that it does not contain toxic substances which will be difficult to remove even after the fruit has been washed. These artificial toxins promote liver inflammation and make it “work overtime” in the attempt to remove them completely from the body. The most beneficial kind of fruits in this case would be apples, grapes, figs, peaches, strawberries, pineapple, watermelon, kiwis, or custard apple, among others.

Cereals: The most appropriated cereals to combat psoriasis are amaranth, quinoa and buckwheat .

  • Amaranth: Can be cooked as cereal in the shape of flour, which is gluten free; or used to make pasta or baked goods and also their seeds are often added to soups or stews in order to thicken them.
  • Quinoa: Besides being a cereal known for the large amount of protein it contains, is a rich source of the lysine aminoacid, which is essential for the tissues growing and repairing. It is a great partner for salads or hot dishes such as sautéed vegetables.
  • Buckwheat: This is a cereal rich in linoleic acid, also called Omega 3, as well as vitamins such as B1 , B2 , B3 , B5 , E and P. This essential nutrients content provides many healthy properties such as tonic effects (that improves the vitality of the body) and anti-tumoral effects.

Vegetables: The consumption of vegetables with anti-inflammatory properties such as artichokes, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbages, carrots, cauliflowers, leeks, onions, spinach, pumpkins, turnips and zucchinis is absolutely important to protect the skin; besides it is also important to highlight the importance of eating vegetables with high beta-carotene levels, a substance that our body converts into Vitamin A, essential for maintaining our skin healthy.
