Theragun Pro accelerates muscle recovery after exercise, improves range of motion and fights cellulite.

The origin of this innovative massage gun dates back to 2007, when chiropractor Jason Wersland was involved in a serious motorbike accident. Failing to find any tools on the market to treat his injuries, he designed a rudimentary percussive therapy device. He soon found that the persistent and debilitating muscle pain he felt, which directly affected his quality of life, began to subside. Today, that homemade device is called Theragun and has evolved into a basic element in the daily training of elite athletes including Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul George and Mo Farah.

At SHA we are always on the lookout for the latest technological advances so that our guests can enjoy a transformative experience that allows them to achieve, and maintain over time, an optimal state of health and wellbeing. To that end, we have just incorporated the fourth generation of Theragun into our wellness programmes; this new model is more efficient and silent and includes different heads that adapt perfectly to different body shapes.

Sergio Masala, Wellness therapist at SHA Wellness Clinic, explains how it works. “It has an impact power of up to 40 percussions per second, which allows us to stimulate deep-down blood circulation, improving the results obtained with vibration massagers by 60%. It can be used as part of the rehabilitation process after surgery or injury, to warm up muscles before training and speed up recovery afterwards, to improve range of motion and also as an anti-cellulite therapy”.

SHA incorporates Theragun Pro into two treatments:

  1. Sports massage with Impact Therapy.

This treatment is designed to loosening tense and contracted muscles, increasing blood flow and facilitating both muscle recovery after training and performance during exercise. A deep massage with Theragun Pro is performed on the affected areas, followed by a supine massage on the cervical area to finish the treatment.

  1. Anti-cellulite Impact Therapy

The treatment is performed in four sectors and starts with the guest lying face down. We apply Theragun Pro with linear movements on the sole of the foot, the body’s reflex zone, stimulating the organs in the same way as foot reflexology does. We go up the calf, activating the blood flow, and the hamstrings, where we work deeper and combine linear movements with circular ones. We then move on to the gluteal region and the lateral hip area, where fat tends to accumulate. With the guest laying face up, we focus on the quadriceps and continue with the lateral hip area. The protocol ends with an ascending manual massage that helps drain the liquids mobilised with the massager.
